Overview

Welcome to the Framework section.

Each level includes:

  • Specific guidance
  • Level outline
  • Qualifications
  • Key knowledge, skills, and behaviour statements
  • Access to tools and resources to support your development

The levels are those of the NHS Career Framework for Health which reflect role development and progression, and not those of Agenda for Change, which is related to remuneration.

Which Level applies to you?

Healthcare support workers (HCSWs) usually work within level 2 to 4 of the development framework.

NMAHP registrants generally progress through levels 5 to 8.

While the level is often the same as the Agenda for Change (AfC) pay band, this is not always the case.

Level AfC Pay Band
Level 2 AfC Pay Band 2/3
Level 3 AfC Pay Band 3/4
Level 4 AfC Pay Band 4/5
Level 5 AfC Pay Band 5/6 or equivalency
Level 6 AfC Pay Band 6/7 or equivalency
Level 7 AfC Pay Band 7/8 or equivalency
Level 8 AfC Pay Band 8a/8b

If you need more help on what level you should focus on, speak to your manager or educator.

How do I get started?

The Framework supports the development of core knowledge, skills and behaviours across the 4 Pillars of Practice. To help you get started we have developed a Getting started page and there is guidance within each Level to support self-assessment.
