Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

What is recognition of prior learning (RPL)?

Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is a process that allows work-based experience and learning to be used as evidence for personal and career development. Colleges and universities can assess your evidence to determine how much academic credit you can apply towards your future learning.

RPL helps recognise and build on informally gained knowledge and skills, offering the following benefits:

  • Build confidence
Motivates individuals to apply for jobs or career advancements.
  • Support qualifications
Provides evidence for qualification or training course applications.
  • Job applications
Offers proof of experience and skills for job applications.
