Personal development

In this section you will find information on how the NMAHP Development Framework can support you at different stages of your personal development journey.

Personal development can take different forms. The framework helps you expand your role across the 4 Pillars of Practice and supports your career aspirations.

It can guide you in:

  • Vertical progression: Developing higher levels of responsibility, knowledge, and skills to move into more advanced roles and career pathways.
  • Horizontal progression: Strengthening your skills and knowledge within your current role to explore new career pathways or focus on areas like leadership within your current level.

The framework is designed to be used by Healthcare Support Workers, Nurses, Midwives, Allied Health Professionals (NMAHP), Healthcare Students, Managers, and Educators, adapting to their unique needs at different stages of their careers.

Used by NMAHP and Healthcare Students to:

  • Benchmark current level of practice.
  • Continue to grow within current level of practice by identifying areas for development.
  • Guide career development.
  • Support meaningful personal development plan and review conversations.
  • Identify evidence to support personal development planning.
  • Develop evidence of advanced level practice
  • Develop evidence to support revalidation with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) or Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or for individuals aiming to return to practice.
